New 2014 Ford Youth World Health Requirements for Exhibitors from Several Texas Counties

In light of a recent vesicular stomatitis outbreak in Texas, the state of Oklahoma is mandating that  horses from several Texas counties to provide specific requirements on their health certificates when traveling to Oklahoma City for the 2014 Built Ford Tough AQHYA World Show.  Health certificates will need to be within 5 days of arriving at the fairgrounds and must specifically confirm that the horse is vesicular stomatitis free.

Counties that have had confirmed outbreaks and will require this information are: Bastrop, Guadalupe, Hidalgo, Jim Wells, Kinney, Nueces, San Patricio, and Travis.

Vesicular stomatitis is a viral disease that causes blisters and lesions on various places like the tongue, nose, mouth, and lips.  Infected horses begin to show signs of the disease and can run a fever within 2-8 days after exposure.  Contact your veterinarian immediately if your horse begins to show signs of vesicular stomatitis, or if you have any additional questions or concerns.
