When Good Things Happen To Good People…
As told to PleasureHorse.com by Amber Wherley
I stood on the coliseum floor on the night of the NYATT awards ceremony with my team of girls from the Northern West Virginia Quarter Horse Association, having a strange instinct that something really great was about to happen. The first name of the winner of the Featherlite trailer was called…I froze and thought to myself, “Oh my, I have a Sydney.” Before her entire last name was even called, there was a burst of screams and jumping for joy from our group, as Sydney Whorral walked in complete disbelief to HER new trailer!
They could not have hand-picked a more deserving, wonderful young lady for this once in a lifetime surprise. Sydney’s mother lost her battle with brain cancer about three years ago when Sydney was just 11. She started riding around age six with her mom, but then her mom got sick and they had to sell their horse. One of Sydney’s best friends was showing horses, and she started going to the barn with her to ride and fell in love with it, so that is when her dad purchased her a show horse, Good Time to Luke, earlier this year. Sydney found riding very therapeutic…almost like it made her feel close to her mom again.
Our NWVQHA April show was her first ever, and she has really blossomed and clicked with her horse throughout the show season. In a whirlwind, she made our Congress Team, showed at her first Congress, and came home with a new horse trailer!
One thing is certain, she’s got a special someone watching over her 🙂
