Canadian Horse Trainer Wins the Lottery!
Sandra Morgan, a horse trainer in British Columbia, her husband Dave Rennie and their son Kyle – just became $35.7-million richer thanks to a Lotto Max ticket Dave bought last Tuesday at a local Chevron Town Pantry.
He checked the ticket Saturday morning at a BC Lottery Corporation terminal after learning the jackpot winner was sold in his hometown. The machine froze.
With the winning ticket in hand, Dave found himself doing an involuntary dance. He spent the rest of the day celebrating with Sandra and Kyle, though convincing them he was telling the truth took some effort.
“At first I didn’t believe it because my dad’s a jokester,” Kyle said, adding that it took more than an hour to come around. “Eventually it sunk in and my first thought was, ‘I don’t need to get a job this summer.’ And then my second thought was, ‘My university’s paid for.’ So I’m pretty happy.”
Dave’s parents arrived at the house shortly after with two cases of beer. Father Bruce had already quit his job.
Sandra says she has no plans to quit training. Maybe that’s what happens when you do something you love for a living…
In making plans to travel from Vancouver Island (where they live) to Vancouver, B.C., Sandra mentioned on Facebook that they couldn’t get a ferry or a flight out of Campbell River, so they chartered their own helicopter to make the trip! Her comment – “Woohoo! It was an awesome flight!”
The family’s win marks the biggest Lotto Max jackpot sold in British Columbia this year.
Hi Sandra and Dave,
Wow, way to go you two. Your deserve it and so enjoy.
Sandra you are one of the hardest working women I know, so those horses will be lucky, of course your family too.
I told Ozzie and Ty about the win last night at feeding time and they gave a whinny.
Sandra it was funny at the local show when I said that when I won the lottery I would lst buy another horse for you to train and show,, so it will be nice now to watch your in the show ring with the best.
Congratulations.

Hey guys! Congrats! Kyle has grown quite a bit since we moved, but you two look great. Wishing you all the best, and above all, have fun. Let me know if you give up pleasure horses for reiners!
