IHSA Welcomes National Snaffle Bit Association as Sponsor

The Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA) and IHSA National Championships are delighted to welcome the National Snaffle Bit Association (NSBA) as a sponsor of America’s oldest and largest college equestrian sport association just as IHSA celebrates the 50thanniversary of its founding during its national championships, May 4-7, in the Alltech Arena of the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington.
Five NSBA trophies will be awarded in IHSA western national championship classes this year. IHSA and NSBA will work to develop a long range plan moving forward that will include expanding future awards to include both hunt seat and western divisions.

Since 1983, the mission of the National Snaffle Bit Association, Inc., has been to grow the show horse community through equine programs and events where every activity benefits horses, breeders, owners and exhibitors alike. The purpose of NSBA is to define, promote and improve the quality of the pleasure horse, to promote exhibits, events and contests in expositions and shows; the promote the training of pleasure horses, to promote interest in pleasure horses among younger horsemen and to use and encourage the use of the standard rules for holding and judging contests of the pleasure horse. IHSA promotes competition for full time student riders of all skill levels, who compete individually and as teams at regional to national levels based on the principle that any college student should be able to participate in horse shows regardless of financial status, gender or riding level. In 2017 IHSA celebrates the Golden 50th Anniversary of its 1967 founding by Fairleigh-Dickinson University sophomore Robert E. ‘Bob’ Cacchione and today serves more than 400 member institutions and 10,000 riders annually.
