The Western Paint Horse Championship returned to the Zone 2 show May 27–30 in South Jordan, Utah. Now in its second year, the Western Paint Horse Championship was larger than ever before and offered exciting new opportunities for exhibitors at the nation’s largest APHA-approved show.
To be eligible for the Western Paint Horse Championship, exhibitors and horse owners must reside in Zone 2—which includes Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada and Utah—and meet other eligibility requirements. APHA sponsored awards for up to 15 Paint Horse Championship classes, with the show selecting the specific events to offer.
Show Manager Terri Wirthlin saw new enthusiasm for the championship classes this year.
“This year our numbers were up in the championship classes. People are starting to get excited about it and figure out the program and how it works,” Terri said. “All in all, it’s a great program and we’re starting to see more people get into the championship classes we offer.”
