Heavy Overnight Rains Not Enough to Slow Down Day 3 of the Tom Powers
One thing that can be expected while at the Tom Powers is the temperamental mood swings of Mother Nature. While Thursday dawned pleasant and sunny, it was a different story for Friday morning as heavy rain moved through the area overnight and left the arenas a sloppy mess. While the Tom Powers Futurity crew worked to siphon out the water, and dry out the footing as much as possible, the morning’s longe line classes were moved into the covered arena.
In the Open Yearling Longe Line, Shez Suddenly Single sired by RL Best of Sudden and shown by Kenny Lakins for owners Brett and Heather Caplinger, loped their way to the win. Coming in a close second was A Slow Martini, sired by The Best Martini and shown by Kathie Kennedy for Rhonda Malone. When it was the Non Pros turn to take the stage in the Non Pro Yearling Longe Line, Shez Suddenly Single continued her impressive ways with winning firsts straight across the board with owner Linda Caplinger which clinched the overall win decisively.
By the time the longe line completed, the outdoor pen was dry enough to resume showing. Three Year Old Novice Horse Hunter Under Saddle champion, Allfor Company Assets (shown by Carmen Mayabb for Cynthia Figueroa) enjoyed his winning romp through the muddy footing, and left the arena taking some of the mud with him on his face and legs. When the two year-olds made their hunter under saddle debut, it was Give Me The Goods with Courtney Brockmueller in the irons, that walked out of the arena with the first championship for what is sure to be a stellar career. Rounding out today’s hunt seat classes was the Maturity Novice Novice Hunter Under Saddle, with Betty Jo Carr and Come On Lets Dance sweeping it under all four judges.
The debut of the Western Pleasure Super Sires Yearling Longe Line was met with great success. In the end it was, Touch N Go Show (sired by A Touch of Sudden) and Kurt Heling winning the class and the $5,000 check. Reserve champion went to It Takes How Many Licks (sired by Blazing Hot) and Scott Neitzel.
Capping off the day with western pleasure, Jamie Murrow piloted Up Close N Personal to his first career win in the 2 Year-Old Limited Rider Western Pleasure for owner Corey Frielich. Susan Roberts loped her way to the championship in the 50 and Over Non Pro Western Pleasure with western pleasure superstar, WhatsCookinGoodLookin, while daughter, Hillary Roberts, came out a Tom Powers Champion as well with For One Night Only in the Maturity Non Pro Western Pleasure.
Saturday will be an eventful day for the Tom Powers, with events like the Western Pleasure Super Sires classes, Triple Challenge Maiden Class, and the annual Tom Powers Yearling Stakes Sale taking the spotlight. Be sure to check back throughout the day for results and updates.
