Little Futurity Kicks Off With Trail, Western Riding Classes

The 2016 Little Futurity got underway on Sunday with Trail and Western Riding futurity classes, which showed concurrently with AQHA classes as part of the Tar Heel Classic AQHA Show, held at the James B. Hunt Horse Complex in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Larry Little, the show’s founder, established the format in which exhibitors have one go in their AQHA class division, with those also showing in the futurity division going first in the working order. Scores for futurity Non-Pro and Open classes were kept until all age divisions had shown to determine the futurity class winners.

“We started doing this a few years ago, and the exhibitors really like it,” Larry said. “They only have to go once, and they don’t have to prepare their horses a second time for the futurity classes. It’s been pretty well received.”

Trail Champions Named
Sunday began with champions named in Green Trail. Christie Arrington showed Ima Flashy Code Red to the win for Patty and Robert Sweisberger. “She is a lot of fun to show,” Christie said of the four year old red roan mare, known as Fergie. “She was very good today.”

17 year old Killian Mullen and More To Zip were double champions in the Open and Non-Pro Trail futurity classes.

“She was really good today. The other day, her patterns were OK, but today her patterns had a lot of flow to them, and she was listening to me really well,” Killian said. “She always wants to please you.”

The five year old mare has only been doing Trail for about a year. “We are showing at the Big A, then the AQHYA World Show and the NSBA World Show,” she said.
