NSBA Announces New Certificate of Eligibility Requirements

Beginning January 1, 2016 horses entered in any NSBA class except for Dual Approved classes require a Certificate of Eligibility for competition.

What is a Certificate of Eligibility?

A Certificate of Eligibility is a new requirement for horses being shown in any NSBA class except for Dual Approved classes. If your horse is already enrolled in NSBA’s Breeders Championship Futurity or Stallion Incentive Fund License Program, you already have a Certificate of Eligibility. If your horse is not already enrolled, you can receive the required certificate by registering with NSBA.

Where do I need to show my Certificate?

If you are only showing in a Dual Approved class, the certificate is not required. All other classes require a Certificate of Eligibility.  Show management will ask to see a copy of your certificate at the time of entry, along with the membership card for the owner and exhibitor of the horse.

How do I get a Certificate for my horse?

NSBA has added a registration form to the association website to request a Certificate of Eligibility. If your horse does not have one, a copy of the horse’s breed registration papers must accompany the application. The cost to obtain a Certificate of Eligibility is $35.

What if I lose my Certificate or need to transfer ownership?

You can obtain a duplicate from the NSBA office. To transfer the certificate to a new owner, or obtain a duplicate copy, the fee is $35.

Do I need to renew my horse’s Certificate of Eligibility each year?

No, once your horse is registered with NSBA or nominated to the Breeders Championship Futurity or Stallion Incentive Fund program, there is not an annual payment due for your horse.  In the event of a transfer of ownership, the new owner will need to submit a transfer form.

If I am showing at the NSBA World Championship Show, do I need a Certificate of Eligibility?

Yes, in order to show at the NSBA World Championship Show your horse will need to have a Certificate of Eligibility. If your horse is already enrolled in NSBA’s Breeders Championship Futurity or Stallion Incentive Fund License Program, you already have a Certificate of Eligibility. A certificate is required for participation in all classes at the World Championship Show.
