Horse World Says ‘Goodbye’ to Playgun
[source: AQHA]
Playgun, a 1992 stallion by Freckles Playboy and out of Miss Silver Pistol owned by Dick Pieper since 1993, was euthanized December 9 due to complications of old age.
He was started under saddle at Pieper Ranch by Antonio Nunez and trained and shown by Dick Pieper and Jody Galyean through his aged event career to many exciting performances in the cutting pen.
Playgun’s success in the show pen spanned six years with 21 aged event champion and reserve championships and more than $186,000 in earnings. He was the National Cutting Horse Association high money-earning 4-year-old cutting horse in 1996. The same year he entered the breeding barn and stood to a full book of mares.
Playgun spent the last few years under the excellent care of Hartman Equine Reproductive Service and staff. Dr. Hartman has been there since the beginning of Playgun’s breeding career and been responsible for the health and well-being of this great stallion. Thank you also Cathy Nogueira and Darby Dorman for your dedication during the very busy years at the ranch.
Playgun’s offspring continue to impact many disciplines with earnings in excess of $8 million to date. In his later years, his prominence as a broodmare sire has become impressive.
He will be missed by many of us, but fondly remembered through his offspring.
Our deepest gratitude to the many owners, trainers and friends, too vast for me to thank personally, and for the support you gave Playgun. You have all played a part in his success.
And most of all, thank you, Playgun. It’s been a great ride!
