No. 4 Auburn upsets No. 1 Georgia, 11-8
Press Release
AUBURN, Ala. – Fourth-ranked Auburn equestrian upset No. 1 Georgia, 11-8 on Friday at the Auburn University Horse Center. With the win, Auburn closes the fall season with a 5-1 (2-1 SEC) record.
“What a great way to end the fall season,” head coach Greg Williams. “We didn’t ride as well as we wanted to last Friday (at Texas A&M), but we were able to regroup and defeat the number one team in the country pretty soundly. I wish we would’ve gotten a couple more points, but now we have some break time to fix horses back up and get ready for our next meet in January. I have been saying for a while that we are good, and tonight they proved it.”
Auburn took a 7-3 lead into halftime after winning Horsemanship, 4-1, and Fences, 3-2. In Horsemanship, senior Hannah Loseke defeated Rachel Kolb, 71.5-71, before freshman Megan Rauh earned her first career victory with a 69-68.5 win over Bailey Anderson. Senior Griffin Knight topped Sammie Johnson, 72.5-71, and freshman Lauren Diaz defeated Heather Schmidt, 68-66.
Freshman Caitlin Boyle captured the first point for the Tigers in Fences, defeating Leylan Gleeson, 83-69. Freshman Hayley Iannotti scored an 85 to beat Addy Cord’s 83 to earn MOP honors, before senior Elizabeth Benson defeated Meg O’Mara, 79-78.
In Equitation on the Flat, Benson continued her perfect season in the event with a 74-69 victory over Leylan Gleeson. Junior Ashley Foster defeated Madison Newman, 71-62. Senior Hailey Munger topped Claudia Spreng, 70.5-68, before freshman Blair McFarlin closed the match with a 71-68 win over Charley Thiel to earn MOP honors.
Auburn will return to action January 30 at home against Baylor at 1 p.m. CT.
