Divine intervention at the 2015 Farnam Breeders’ Trust Select Sale
When Known To Be Lazy entered the West Sale Arena on November 7, Ida Wright of New Bern, North Carolina, knew he was meant to join her family. Citing divine intervention, something told her he would be the perfect fit for her husband, Harvey, so Ida started bidding. When the gavel fell at $13,000, Ida found herself the proud owner of the Farnam Breeders’ Trust Select Sale high-selling horse.
“I had looked at a lot of the horses, but when Known To Be Lazy came out, I just had a really good feeling about him,” Ida said. “I give God the glory and the credit for this horse because he’s the one who told me to pick him. When we went to look at him after the sale, we found out his barn name is ‘Harvey,’ which is the same as my husband’s name.”
Known To Be Lazy is a 2014 chestnut tobiano stallion by No Doubt Im Lazy (QH) and out of Quickies Kokamo; he was bred and consigned by Don and Cindy Gattis of Sorrento, Florida. The stallion is a full brother to Call Me Lazy, a 2014 reserve world champion in Yearling Longe Line who placed eighth in this year’s Farnam 2-Year-Old Western Pleasure Stakes.
Ida and Harvey train with Allan and Julie Schmidt of Dare to Dream Performance Horses in Wilson, North Carolina, and the couple is excited about having their colt return for the Farnam Pleasure Stakes class next year. Allan and Julie are no strangers to the Farnam Stakes program; Julie finished in the Top 10 in this year’s Farnam 2-Year-Old Western Pleasure Stakes with Im Fantasized, and Allan was a finalist aboard Lazadaisical.
