IQHA Youth Show Cancelled Amid EHV-1 Precautions
The Illinois Quarter Horse Association has announced the upcoming IQHA Youth Show, scheduled for May 15-17, has been cancelled as a precaution after two horses tested positive for Equine Herpesvirus-1 at the Midwest Reining Horse Association show held last weekend.
According to the a post on their Facebook page, IQHA states, “Exhibitors will be notified this week of the future status of shows scheduled. We are conferring with the State of Illinois, University of Illinois, AQHA, NBHA, NRHA and the llinois PHA about the measures we will take in stopping the spread of this illness in horses. The association that rented our facility has contacted the exhibitors that were present at that show. Our facility will be disinfected with appropriate actions. We encourage everyone to not travel with horses until the recommended time has passed and deemed safe and horses asymptomatic. Everyone needs to confer with their veterinarian on preventing/treating EHV-1.”
Earlier this week, the Southwest Washington Paint Horse Club announced the cancellation of their ColorPalooza show in Albany, Oregon, citing the same precautionary measures amid a recent outbreak of EHV-1.
