The American Paint Horse Association is only as strong as our members and their commitment to the breed. During the 2015 APHA Convention, which took place February 27–March 2 in Fort Worth, Texas, several members were honored for their dedication and service as longtime APHA national directors.
National directors are elected as representatives of their peers and are charged with managing the business of the association. APHA has about 110-120 elected directors, who make the rules by which the association is governed. Past presidents, former Distinguished Service Award winners and elected directors who have a cumulative tenure of 30 years or more retain the title of lifetime director-at-large, which ensures voting privileges so long as their APHA membership remains current and in good standing.
During the Board of Directors meeting on March 1, APHA saluted nine national directors for their service and commitment. They include:
- I.J. Carey — 41 years (not pictured)
- Butch Wonderlich — 40 years (son Lyle Wonderlich accepting on her behalf, top left)
- Peggy Gilbert — 30 years (not pictured)
- Grace Harris — 30 years (top center)

- Bonnie Christensen — 21 years (bottom left)
- Paul Reinbolt — 21 years (not pictured)
- Fred Tabor — 20 years (bottom center)
