While we tend to often see great stallions remembered for their contributions to the industry, great mares are just as important.  Since they can’t produce the number of foals that stallions can, it is impressive when they have a stellar produce record and even more so after a successful show career.  One such mare who could do it all is Chocolate Zipper.

The 1989 mare by the great Zips Chocolate Chip was bred to be a force in the western pleasure ring, and what a force she was.  Getting her start as a futurity prospect, she quickly proved that she could also hold her own as a Youth and Amateur horse as she dominated the western pleasure events in the early to mid-90’s.  With an outstanding resume of 6 Congress Championships, 3 AQHA World and Reserve World Championships, 4 Superior awards in western pleasure, and over 300 total western pleasure points, she was retired to pass on her legacy to the next generation of pleasure horses with longtime owner and well-known stallion-owner and breeder, Clarice Cooper, of Cooper Quarter Horses.  In 2006, she was inducted into the NSBA Hall of Fame.

The most well-known of Chocolate Zipper’s offspring is the late, great mare Show Diva.  Show Diva followed in her mother’s footsteps of success, earning 3 Reserve World Championships, an AQHA Performance Championship, and four Superior awards.

These days, Chocolate Zipper is still residing at Cooper Quarter Horses at the ripe age of 26 and living the good life.
