Throwback Thursday: Windchester
Once again, the week is almost at an end and it’s time for Throwback Thursday! Today, we remember the great stallion Windchester, who not only was a great all-around horse in his own right but also made his mark as a sire. Offspring like All In Silver, The St. Louie Special, Bo Jack Dandy, Ms. Silver Tip, and The Lady In Grey dominated show rings in the 80’s and 90’s.
Foaled in 1973, the grey stallion made his name in the show ring by earning a Reserve World Championship, Superior in Halter, and an AQHA Championship, a Performance ROM. Sired by Mr. Tailwind and out of the mare, Jackie Pine, he rose to prominence in the hands of the legendary Jerry and Betty Wells of Oklahoma.
We own a stallion by Windchester out of his last foal crop. He is 18.
nice going I had a horse called mr tailwind
I was very privileged to have Windchester at my farm and stand him in the later years of his life. What a wonderful stallion he was, great minded and broke to perfection. Oh to have him today for shipped semen, he was before all of the steroids etc. His semen was so good, it approached that of bull semen (you cattle people know what I mean, swirls and eddies), great concentration and motility. He was a great show horse and broodmare sire. Having Windchester also allowed me to become well acquainted with the great Jerry Wells and his wonderful wife Betty.
It was a very sad day when Windchester died. He is buried at my farm.
