Top Moments From the 2013 AQHA World Show

Here we are, at the precipice of yet another AQHA World Championship Show. The pinnacle event of American Quarter Horse competition kicks off November 7 in Oklahoma City. Your American Quarter Horse Journal staff will be on the scene, providing up-to-the-minute coverage on Twitter (@AQHAJournal), plus daily slideshows and video interviews with the newly crowned world champions at www.aqha.com/worldshow.
But before this year’s class of world champions writes their names in the record books, we wanted to take a look back at the 2013 AQHA World Show. Recalling the landmark events from 2013, you can see that the 2014 AQHA World Show has a lot to live up to.
- Ranch Horse Pleasure All-Star – Not only did SF Check Me Out secure the first amateur ranch horse pleasure world championship with Christy Brasier, but the bay gelding also set a precedent. SF Check Me Out has made the finals in every AQHA ranch horse pleasure world show finals class ever held, with top-10 placings every time, to boot.
- Making Strides for Equestrians With Disabilities – The first Para-Reining competition in the United States debuted November 15 at the 2013 AQHA World Show. The event launched the effort to bring the discipline for equestrians with disabilities online as a fully recognized sport in 2014.
- Western Riding Record-Setter – En route to the senior western riding world championship, Ima Petite Classic and AQHA Professional Horseman Charlie Cole set the event’s highest score – a whopping 240. The big, black gelding is owned by Lee Reeve of Garden City, Kansas.
