Congress Hunter Classes Off to a Flying Start
The hunter over fences events showcase the athleticism, grace, and versatility of the American Quarter Horse, and the Quarter Horse Congress is a place to see the best of the best. The fence classes started Saturday with the morning warmups in the Celeste followed by Novice Amateur, Novice Youth, and Senior Working Hunter.
In the Novice Amateur Working Hunter, Gretchen Ingersoll and The One To Chase, took home the title of Congress Champion. Hot Stylish Irons, piloted by Claire Madigan, clinched the top spot in the Novice Youth Working Hunter by scoring two firsts, a second, and a third on the judges’ cards. The Senior Working Hunter Champion went to Go Big Sky, shown by Linda Crothers and owned by Rodger Call, while sweeping the top spot on all four cards!
Sunday saw more working hunter action while capping off the day with the annual Hunter Classic presented by Dover Saddlery. Former top youth and amateur competitor, Jessica Johnson, captured the Congress Championship with Art of the Deal, owned by Natalie Vargo, after placing second in the first go and first in the final round for a composite first place finish.
Monday continues with more hunter events in the Celeste, starting with Amateur Select Working Hunter at 8 a.m., and concluding with Youth 13 & Under Hunter Hack approximately around 9:10 p.m.
