What’s Up Saturday at The 2014 Tom Powers
If you are here at the 2014 Tom Powers Triple Challenge Futurity (and if you’re not, come on over:)), today is going to be fun! After a morning of 2-and 3-year old HUS and Maturity, 3 year old and 2 year old Open Western Pleasure classes, show-goers will be treated to the NSBA Trainer Crisis Fund Bridle-Less Western Pleasure, two Western Pleasure Super Sires (3YO Non Pro and Ltd. Non Pro), and finally the Maiden 2 year old Sale Stakes Western Pleasure class! The Sale Stakes class has a guaranteed purse of $55,000 and also offers the Harris Challenge – $3,000 in the Open, and $1,000 in the Limited, to winners riding a Harris saddle.
Then, later in the afternoon, Tom and Dominique Powers will host a BBQ also to benefit the NSBA Trainer Crisis Fund. The final event of the day will be the much anticipated Tom Powers Triple Challenge Futurity Sale. With 88 horses in the sale this year, numbers have almost tripled since the sale’s inception in 2011. Alan Parker, of Alan Parker Auctions, feels this year’s sale “is going to be a good one. We have more than half-again the number of horses in this year’s sale than last year.” Alan also feels good about the market. When there are fewer horses, supply and demand kicks in. “There have been a lot of people looking at these horses all week,” said Alan.
We will keep posting news and happenings throughout the day and tomorrow, as the show comes to a close.
