Horse enthusiasts will bring their quest for knowledge when the best minds in the horse industry appear at the nation’s ultimate equine exposition, the Horse Expo Pomona, Friday through Sunday, February 7-9 at the Fairplex, 1101 W. McKinley Avenue, Pomona.  Attendees will go back to their barn with a plethora of new information on horse care, riding, training and competition.

Featured all weekend will be a vast assortment of seminars and demonstrations from experts in the areas of reining, barrel racing, dressage, three-day event, driving, jumping and trail. The Expo will further provide practical tips from saddle fitting, body clipping and trimming to planning your next barn, USDFA rules for horse shows, advice from a vet and more.

“We are committed to providing top notch clinicians that will be both educational and entertaining,” said Horse Expo Events President, Miki Nelsen.  “It is our goal to provide practical information to our attendees to insure a safe and long lasting relationship with their equine partner.”

John Lyons, known as the most trusted horseman in America, will headline the weekend along with his family.  For the first time ever, Lyons will attempt to do something that no other trainer has ever done.  At the Arena, Lyons will take six unbroken horses with their owners and together they will break them during this three-day weekend. They will be six different breeds, personalities and ages.  Attendees will be able to view their daily progress.  “I strive to instill confidence and self-esteem for the rider, which they can use with their horses and in their everyday life,” said Lyons.

 Some of the expert demos in the Arena include:

Jane Savoie (Dressage) – Member of United States Equestrian and three-time Olympic coach.  She will focus on tips with lateral work, suppleness, and collection.

Susan Harris/Peggy Brown (Anatomy in Motion™) – First area appearance in years! They will present their world-renowned Visible Horse demo, including painting the horse with the muscles and skeleton.  Brown will do the Visible Rider demo, wearing the “skeleton suit” that shows how the rider’s body works with the horse.  They will also provide tips on improving your hands, sitting and using your body effectively on the saddle.

Gina Miles (Olympic Silver Medalist, Pan American Gold and Bronze, Three Day Event) – She will offer information on cross training, achieving straightness, and angles and narrows as well as advance concepts for jumping.

NickKarazissisNic Karazissa (Top judge and clinician in USA, Jumping) – He will focus on the proper form for the horse, the formula to achieve a balanced jumping horse, and the riders seat.

Sharon Camarillo (Cowgirl Hall of Fame inductee and International Professional Barrel Racer) – She will provide barrel racing demos on skills, drills and exercises and specific problems with specific and the corrections.

Leslie Berndl (Two-time representative for US combined driving world championships) – She will demonstrate cross country marathon driving, dressage driving and obstacle course driving.

Jonathan Field (Expert on equine psychology) – He will present demos on ground skills with your horse, active, neutral and body control of the rider and developing a comfortable canter.

The University area will provide a barn load of information including:  Dana Boyd Miller with tips on body clipping and trimming; Jackie Fenaroli on saddle fitting; Ken Wagner on design, structure and interior design of a barn, Dr. Bryan McMurry, PhD; equine physiology and nutrition; and Dr. Katie Flynn, BVMS, new California equine medicating rules for horse shows and interstate movement of the horse regulations and more.

The Trail Symposium will feature experts who will provide tips on proper use and safety out on the trail.  Peter Kriger, Current Back County Horsemen Association Director will address unique train riding encounters with black bears, mountain lions, rattle snakes, and bees.  Teresa Spencer, author and owner of EquestiSafe, will speak about trail and barn safety, tools for the trail rider and disaster preparedness.   Bonnie David, a 40-year horse camper veteran, will provide tips on horse camping.

Horse Expo Pomona offers something for every level of horse enthusiast.  Several new events will include the Breed Revelation and a nationally sanctioned NRCHA Event, the California Classic Invitational Cow Horse. Popular returning attractions Young Rider Park, Book Corral and Great American Truck Display will be larger than ever. 

Over 300 exhibits will offer the latest products and services from riding apparel, tack, nutrition, horse supplies and trailers to art, jewelry, arts and crafts and more.

Adult admission tickets are $18 per day or $45 for the full weekend.  Tickets for children 13 years and under are $5 per day and children under six are admitted free.  Show hours are 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., daily.  Plenty of parking is available and located at Gate 17 off McKinley Ave.
