Saturday morning brings us blue skies and nice breezes here at The Tom Powers in southern Michigan.  Yesterday’s first day of showing was filled with some very nice horses, class sizes larger than last year, and lots of smiles from exhibitors.  Stall numbers are up from last year, and we are really looking forward to today’s MAIDEN 2 year old Sale Stakes Western Pleasure class, to be held just before the second annual Tom Powers Stakes Sale takes place.  This year’s sale will include 65 horses; almost double the numbers from last year.  Official auctioneer for the sale is Alan Parker Auctions.  Alan Parker said, “I think this year’s crop is an improved set of horses over last year.”  Both Parker and Tom Powers have the goal of keeping costs for the sale to a minimum, to be able to give the money back and keep the big prizes at a sizeable level.  Parker commented that the projected overall gross total purse for next year is around $80,000, which will provide a rough 2013 payout of around $40K.
