2012 World Championship Appaloosa Youth Show Makes History Before the Show Even Begins

Moscow, Idaho – The Appaloosa Horse Club (ApHC) is pleased to announce that the 2012 World Championship Appaloosa Youth Show has made history prior to the first day of classes.

ApHC CEO, Steve Taylor says “Having a sponsor for every class and awards buckle at the 2012 World Championship Appaloosa Youth Show is a remarkable achievement by the many supporters within the ApHC community. If it has happened before, it was a long time ago! Thanks to everyone for the support and for helping to make this year’s show a truly special event. Appaloosa Youth Association members are great examples of what’s best about the equine industry and we are proud to have them representing our breed.”

2012 World Championship Appaloosa Show runs July 9 – July 14 at Tulsa Expo Square, Tulsa, Oklahoma. The fun begins as youth from across the country and around the globe come together to compete for world championship titles, share in common experiences and make memories. The World Youth Show will showcase the talent of both the Appaloosa breed and the young people who exhibit them with more than 70 world-title classes in a full array of disciplines. World championship titles will be awarded in a full gamut of classes: leadline, walk/ trot, halter, showmanship, English performance classes, Western performance classes, speed events and cattle events. In addition to the variety of exciting arena competition, there is a nice assortment of other classes and activities specifically for the youth competitors.

More than a horse show

The World Championship Appaloosa Youth Show is more than a horse show – with many activities planned that don’t require a horse to be involved.

  •  The Youth/Collegiate Horse Judging Contest is a great opportunity for any individual or team interested in brushing up on their equine judging skills. Members of 4-H, FFA, a regional or national AYA club or any other accredited breed association are eligible and encouraged to compete in the youth division. The 2012 Horse Judging Competition will be held Sunday, July 15, 2012 at 8:30 a.m. in the Mustang Arena at the Built Ford Livestock Complex at Tulsa Expo Square. The two divisions, youth and collegiate, are open to teams and individuals. Entry fees are $25 for individuals and $100 for teams.
  •  The Youth Coloring Page Contest will be hosted at the ApHC Information Booth located on the concourse of the Ford Truck Arena. Kids can put their artistic talent and eye for color to good use in this coloring competition. Winning entries are published in the September issue of Appaloosa Journal.
  •   Educational Scholarships are available to AYA members in high school seeking an equine-related degree in an institution of higher learning. The Appaloosa Youth Foundation annually offers up to $9,000 in scholarships.
  •  AYA Board of Directors Meeting and General Membership Meeting will be held on Sunday, July 8 and are open to all AYA and ApHC members.
  •  AYA Speech Contest youth may participate in the Speech Contest either as individual or as part of a team for the team competition. There are two age groups (13 & under and 14-18). In addition, each age group has two divisions: Division I—a speech on a pre-determined topic; and Division II—an extemporaneous/impromptu contest.
  •  2011 Year-End Youth Awards Banquet will be held Sunday, July 8th at the Double Tree at Warren Place in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
  •  Youth Team Decorating Contest begins on Sunday, July 8th at AYA Avenue located between the Ford Truck and Mustang Arenas.
  •  Champion of Champions Competition will be in the Ford Truck arena on Saturday, July 14th
  •  Youth Team Tournament Parade and Awards will be Saturday, July 14th in the Ford Truck Arena
  •  2012 Youth Exhibitors Party will be held at the Big Splash Water Park at Expo Square on Saturday, July 14th following the arena competitions and awards ceremonies.
  • Year-Round AYA Contests allow AYA members to compete for various awards and prizes. Whether your talent lies in drawing and painting, photography or in writing—the AYA has a contest for everyone!

 

Though youths don’t have to be members to have fun with the AYA, there are a lot of fun activities non-members are missing out on! Joining is easy—for $10, one can become a member of the first equine youth association in the nation. Youth members receive an online subscription to Appaloosa Journal, a free Appaloosa E-mail address and more! Whether you have an Appaloosa or not, the AYA has something for you!
