2012 IHSA National Championships Awards Scholarships
Fairfield, Connecticut—May 25, 2012-–The 39th IHSA National Championships remembered IHSA co-founder, Captain John “Jack” Fritz, who passed away at age 87 on February 10, 2012. Fritz was a strong advocate for college riding and was honored with a perpetual IHSA Scholarship, sponsored by ECE Equestrian Co., LLC, and launched in his name during the May 3-6 event in Raleigh, NC. The inaugural recipient of the Jack Fritz Memorial Scholarship ($1,500), from Zone 5, Region 2, was Nora Demchur of University of South Carolina.
The Jon Conyers Memorial Scholarship was presented to Peyton Callanan of Georgia Southern University. Established to honor an extraordinary teacher, judge and coach, it is available annually to an undergraduate competing member of the IHSA. A rider that demonstrates Jon’s ideals has passion and respect for horses, and demonstrates a desire to improve him or herself in order to improve their relationship and communication with their horses. The award winner received $1,500 from the Intercollegiate Equestrian Foundation.
